Are meals included? Drinks? Gratuities?
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included daily, along with mid-day and late-night snacks. there's never a shortage of food. Drinks are not included and will be charged to your room. Wine and cocktails are surprisingly inexpensive. Tipping is optional and is generally paid at the end of your trip. If unspecified, tips are split among crew. If there's a particular person you liked, you can designate your tip toward that person. (Ship's recommended tip is USD $11 per day.)
what if I want a pre- or post-cruise extension in barbados or another island?
Friendly Group Travel is happy to arrange this. Because the trip is in February and Northeast weather can be unpredictable, many guests from the Connecticut/NY area choose to fly down a day or two early (or three) early to allow for weather-related travel issues – and hopefully to enjoy a few beach days before boarding the ship. Announcements will be sent to all group members about recommended hotel/s and a group rate.
Who arranges the flights?
You are free to book your own airfare to and from Barbados. Friendly Group Travel will send a heads up when a low fare is detected, and will book air for group members who need assistance. Individuals who want to share ground transportation to the airport (most likely JFK) may share the cost of a private driver from a shoreline location. Guests coming from other areas must be sure their flights will arrive in time to board the ship (beginning at 4 pm and no later than 9 pm on the February 24. The Royal Clipper leaves the dock promptly at 10 pm on February 24. Guests who are late will need to meet the ship at the next port at their own expense.
what about travel insurance?
Friendly Group Travel will get quotes for every passenger in the group.
are there a lot of excursions? Do they cost money?
The Royal Clipper anchors at every port, and a complimentary launch runs back and forth between the ship and the island every 30 minutes. The ship is equipped with snorkel gear, SUPs, kayaks and other 'water toys" that are available to passengers at no additional cost. Some passengers like to take the launch to explore the island either walking into town or taking a taxi. Star Clippers offers daily excursions for a fee. the excursion list will be shared prior to the trip. Sign-ups are on the ship only (not beforehand.) Friendly Group Travel may arrange with a local tour guide for snorkeling or other short day trips if there's enough group interest.
